Tips on How to Make Some Fantastic Slow Cooker Recipes!

When you don't have time to spend an hour or more cooking dinner after work, there is an easy and delicious alternative: use a slow cooker! A slow cooker provides an excellent way to still get that great dinner you want, without spending hours in the kitchen.

Slow cooker recipes are great for people on the go. Some slow cooker recipes have some prep-time, but other recipes simply require you to throw the ingredients into the slow cooker and cook for the recommended time. Most recipes you can let cook while you're at work all day, and when you come home you will be greeted with a tantalizing aroma and a home-cooked meal.

Slow cooking is simple and anyone can make fantastic slow cooker recipes. If you're a first time slow cooker user, here are five great tips to get you started!

  1. Before you add any kind of meat to the slow cooker, make sure it is fully defrosted. Never attempt to cook frozen meat in the slow cooker. Defrost and brown all meat used in your slow cooker. You can also use cheaper cuts of meat, such as stewing or braising meat, because they seem to have the tastiest flavor.

  2. Don't peek! When you repeatedly take the lid of the slow cooker off, heat is lost and it could take longer for your meal to cook. It's best to let the slow cooker do its job and not remove the lid.

  3.  If you want your meal to cook all day, use your slow cooker's low-heat setting. This allows most foods to cook for 10 to 12 hours. The high-heat setting usually allows food to cook in 5 to 6 hours.

  4. Spray your slow cooker before use with a cooking spray, such as Pam, this will make clean up much easier . There are even plastic liners you can buy that go into the slow cooker before you add your food and after you're done, you can just throw away the liner, leaving you no mess to clean up.

  5.  If you want to be more environmentally friendly and skip the liners, you can soak your slow cooker in a combination of warm water and baking soda before scrubbing for easy cleaning.
