Note from the Editor

This is a perfect slow cooker recipe to make for dinner tonight. Why, you might ask? Because it's so easy! Simply toss together the ingredients and let them cook for a few hours while you go about your day. Macaroni and beef recipes such as this one are often called American Chop Suey. Typically, American Chop Suey features a jumble of ingredients cooked in a skillet. It's a regional meal found throughout the New England area, but it isn't as common elsewhere in the States. Additionally, American Chop Suey is said to have been the inspiration behind the famous Hamburger Helper brand.

The slow cooker version of this recipe means that you can have a no-fuss meal waiting at home for you. This macaroni and beef recipe is healthier than store-bought versions. You can make this easy recipe into an even lighter version by using ground turkey instead of ground beef.

I'm from Conway, S.C., and I call a dish like this "goulash", I love this kind of recipe because everything is in one pot, thanks!

When one is should proceed with caution....

When one is should proceed with caution...

There were two things I was wary about concerning this recipe, but I followed it anyway. First was the amount of fresh garlic, second was the can of water. We love garlic, but 6 cloves wound up being way too much, and overpowered the dish completely. In an attempt to counteract the garlic, I added some sweetener and that really helped. As for the can of water, I should have eliminated that because I didn't add the noodles raw to the crockpot. We don't like undercooked or overcooked noodles, so that can of water just made the sauce very runny.
