After melting the caramel in the slow cooker with a little bit of water for a few hours, dip the apples into the melted mixture. This recipe is also great to make with kids or grand kids because they will love being able to add toppings to their own apples. It is recommended that you use one of those store bought plastic Crock Pot liners when using it to melt your caramels. Has anyone melted chocolate in another crock to provide variety? I think it's a great idea. If you haven't tried a caramel apple bar for your party, I highly recommend it!

I like to make this year - round, the only problem is that those special sticks are a lot harder to find / not in the supermarkets. Regular popsicle sticks can be used, which you can find in any craft store. Also, It is fun to do these fondue style, with sliced apples on a kebob skewer.

Caramel apples are some of my favorite treats from my childhood. I can see making these up and having my kids invite some friends over so they can all share them and some hot apple cider or hot chocolate. Nowadays, kids like to drink coffee, but you get the idea. I think they would be delicious for several fall gatherings.

I did this once for my son's Halloween party many years ago. I had the crock pot out on the table, apples ready to go, and a whole line of bowls with all the different toppings. I let the kids (along with the parents-because the caramel is hot) dip the apples and them choose their toppings themselves. They all devoured it, and loved it. It was a hit! I would do this again. Way better than making it on the stove or even in the microwave, especially when you are the one in charge of the party and probably have a million other things to do!
