You just have to try the World's Best Split Pea Soup with Bacon Bits. This split pea soup recipe is better than any of the split pea soup recipes you've tried in the past -- no kidding. Even if you're not usually a fan of split pea soup, this is the recipe that will change your mind. The secret is in the slow cooking. Dried split peas, chicken stock, ham hocks, and chopped onion and carrots makes this soup extra flavorful and so comforting. Garnish this soup with crispy bacon bits or diced ham, and enjoy!

I like this pea soup since it is very comforting, and easy to throw together in the slow cooker with very little fuss. I had cooked a large spiral sliced ham for my guests over the holidays, and had a lot of leftovers, so I cubed up some of the leftover meat and used it in this soup recipe the week after. I used the center bone from the ham in place of the ham hocks that the recipe calls for, and it turned out delicious.
