The cubed stew meat used in most stew recipes has never been a favorite in my house, especially with kids. I think they will like "hamburger" stew. I have everything i need to make this tonight, except the dry onion soup mix. Any substitution suggestions? I could cook some onion with the ground beef, but it seems the dry soup mix would contain more than onions.

Am I the only one who has never before heard of a ground beef stew? Our family is not big on eating red meat, so the only beef stew I've ever made was with cubed stew meat. This is different and interesting to me, with all of the tomato flavors and Italian/ French onion soup mix. I think it will be good to have a stew that is tomato based and with no celery for a change. I'd like to try this soon!

I have been looking for a simple beef stew recipe for a long time, but I never could find one that was easy enough for me. This one is perfect. I love the use of fresh veggies and how I can throw it all in the crock pot and continue on with my day. When the day is over, dinner is cooked, and all I have to do is eat and clean up. Thanks!

I do a version of this all the time, but.....you must use more ground beef!! That is simply not enough meat for 12 ppl! I add celery, onion, and one bay leaf as well, with a bit more tomato! It is inexpensive, fast and they're always asking for more. Serve with fresh baked bread of your choice!
