Crazy Easy Slow Cooker Monkey Bread
This image courtesy of

You can make an out-of-this-world monkey bread recipe with biscuits using your slow cooker. This recipe for Crazy Easy Slow Cooker Monkey Bread shows you how, with just a few simple steps and just 4 ingredients. Throw it together when you're craving something sweet and gooey or need to feed a crowd. This monkey bread can be enjoyed for breakfast, dessert or a party. There's never a bad time to enjoy this sweet pull-apart bread. You can even add your own personal touch by including apples, liqueur, or chocolate. Just, be sure not to forget some napkins for your guests, as the recipe can get messy.

Monkey bread has a fairly murky origin story. It seems to just appear out of nowhere in American cookbooks during the mid 1900s. The bread, originally a savory treat, is now often composed of pieces of dough rolled in sugar and other sweet toppings. It's a staple of Sunday breakfasts (or desserts) in many American homes. Monkey bread seems to be related to a Hungarian dessert called aranygaluska, which is prepared in a similar fashion, although a direct relationship between the recipes isn't certain. It's thought that the name monkey bread comes from the resemblance between the dessert and the fruit of the monkey puzzle tree.

Several celebrities in the later half of the 20th century helped popularize this sticky dessert bread. Actress ZaSu Pitts in the 1940s and First Lady Nancy Reagan in the 1980s both served monkey bread to their guests, which helped catapult the bread into the consciousness of mainstream America.

How often did you rotate the biscuit pieces in the crockpot? I think this sounds easy enough, but I want to make sure that it gets done all the way through. Is it supposed to come out like a biscuit or will it be a little soggy? I am not sure my daughter will like it if it is soggy.

Hi SissieSass, according to the recipe, it sounds like the blogger only rotated the biscuit pieces once. But if the biscuit pieces aren't cooked to your liking, I think you could stir again and continue cooking them. I hope that helps! - Natalie, Editor of AllFreeSlowCookerRecipes

just cooked this and not impressed. The dough never rose so it was doughy after the 2 hours of cooking. Going to try another 1/2 hour or so....hate to throw away all that work.....put it in the oven to finish the oven way better
