This recipe for Slow Cooked Apple Cherry Pastries with Vanilla Cream is among the more unique slow cooker dessert recipes you can make. This delicious treat transcends all seasons, and is great for both fall and summer. Fresh apples, dried cherries, vanilla pudding, and puff pastry come together for this fruit filled treat. This slow cooker dessert is lovely enough for entertaining, but easy enough to make for a weeknight meal.

Cooking Vessel Size4-quart slow cooker

Ingredients

  • 1 lemon
  • 8 apples (about 3 pounds), peeled and cut into 1/4-inch-thick slices
  • 1/2 cup dried cherries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 package (3.4 ounces) vanilla instant pudding and pie filling mix
  • 3 cups milk
  • 2 packages (10 ounces each) Pepperidge Farm® Puff Pastry Shells, prepared according to package directions

Instructions

  1. Grate 1/2 teaspoon zest from the lemon.

  2. Stir the apples, cherries, sugar and lemon zest in a 4-quart slow cooker.

  3. Cover and cook on LOW for 4 to 5 hours or until the apples are tender.

  4. Beat the pudding mix and milk in a medium bowl with a whisk for about 2 minutes or until the mixture is thickened.

  5. Divide the apple mixture among the pastry shells. Top with the pudding mixture.

Do you have a preference on the apples you use? Do you like Granny Smith or Macintosh? Some people have a preference, and others don't. I think the dessert sounds tasty. I want to see what the texture comes out like. I may use this recipe for a party dish.
