All you have to do is combine all of the ingredients in the slow cooker and then let it go for four hours on low. While some think there are not beans in award winning recipes, they should do their research! Internationally no beans...State championships etc. you can use beans and many have won. There are traditional and nontraditional cook-offs. Besides, if it taste good who cares? I love beans in my chili and will not eat chili without them!

I have to call Baloney!! There is no way a chili recipe that included beans won any true chili cook-off or competition against other true chili aficionados. Perhaps this recipe won an independent club, church, school, or work contest. Beans were historically added to real chili to extend the recipe for cheap retail sale, or in tight economic times at home. Real "first place" chili is made with various vegetables, meat, and spices, but NO beans.
